What’s On & Features

Family First Aid

Family Forge have produced Family Aid packs, which are now available at the back of church for interested parishioners, parents or young single Catholics, secondary school teachers or chaplains, priced £5.00.

The packs are a useful aid for young Catholic singles to understand the dating phase of life better and the issues affecting dating and relationships. The content is best meditated on in a spirit of prayer. But the pack is also useful for parents or chaplains to contemplate and take the ideas within the pack to guide or discuss with their teens or youth groups.

The Aid encourages the setting up of personal boundaries in a world where anything goes and includes the effects on the human brain of certain behaviors because of this,  the aids can also be used by parents as a corrective where the behaviour embarked on is not leading to healthy lifestyles. Either the appropriate aid could be given directly to your child or used as an aid to open the conversation again. Parents have the responsibility to assist God in winning their children back to the faith. Since God is spirit this comes through knowledge, reason and love shown in care.

Thus the  Aid pack can be used as near preparation for marriage or as immediate preparation and a corrective. For best results using this pack it should be meditated upon in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVP)

The SVP has been operating at Our Lady and All Saints parish since 1979,  and currently has 13 members who help needy individuals and families, and visit the elderly in their own homes or care homes. Some members help asylum seekers and refugees in Skelmersdale and Wigan. The group also supports the SVP at the ARK at the Ecumenical Centre in Skelmersdale.

There is a flourishing Mini Vinnies group in our primary school, led by one of the teachers. They regularly visit local care homes and have hosted social functions for older members of the parish. More information at Mini Vinnies and our charitable work | Our Lady and All Saints Catholic Primary School. They have instigated an Appeal for the SVP Foodbank in Skelmersdale. This is ongoing and the Mini Vinnies and SVP have placed a box at the back of church for donations. Thank you to all those who are supporting this Appeal and donating to the SVP.

We always need more members – please consider joining the SVP however minimal you think your contribution might be.
There are lots of roles and potential opportunities for people of any age and with more members, we could do a lot more.
We currently meet each month on a Wednesday afternoon in the Priory but could move this to another time if that suited members better.
If you would like to have a conversation, please speak with one of the SVP members or email the Chairman by clicking the button below.
