Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During this time, the Church will remain open for visits to the Blessed Sacrament and private prayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Mass <\/strong>
will be celebrated at
08:30am<\/strong> on Saturday 31st October prior to Solemn Exposition and at
10:30am<\/strong> on Sunday 1st November, as usual,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday will conclude with a Holy Hour and Benediction at 8:00pm.
Sunday will conclude with Night Prayer at 8:30pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veiling with the Virgin Mary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re now have a supply of Mantillas for sale at the back of church. Very competitively priced at \u00a315.00, we have both black and white, hand made by the nuns at Tyburn Convent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside the Tyburn gift box<\/strong> is information about why women veil, a mantilla with bag, a Saint Benedict Medal and leaflet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relic of Our Lady’s Veil at Chartres<\/strong>
The theology of the mantilla, or chapel veil, centres on the idea that what is sacred, is veiled, serving as a physical, outward sign of an internal spiritual reality.

Historically, this practice is rooted in 1 Corinthians 11:2-10, where Saint Paul instructs women to cover their heads in church to signify reverence, modesty and submission to God.

Key theological themes <\/strong>surrounding the mantilla:
Reverence to the Eucharist:<\/strong> the primary purpose is to show awe and respect for the real presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament;
The Woman as a sacred vessel:<\/strong> just as the chalice and tabernacle are veiled because they hold the Boy and Blood of Christ, a woman, as a bearer of life and image of the Church, wears a veil to signify her holiness and dignity;
The Church as the bride of Christ:<\/strong> the veil symbolises the Church’s submission to Christ, who is the head of the Church;
Imitation of the Virgin Mary:<\/strong> it serves as a sign of modesty and humility, modeling the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his New Year’s Day message on 1st January 1987, Pope John Paul II declared a Marian Year aimed at strengthening devotions to the mother of Christ. This would start on June 7th<\/sup> 1987 Pentecost Sunday and conclude on 15th<\/sup> August 1988.
This was only the second Marian Year in the Church\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<\/div>

As part of the celebrations in the Liverpool Archdiocese, Archbishop Derek Worlock asked each parish in the archdiocese dedicated to Our Lady to produce a banner, which would be blessed at a special celebration in the Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each such parish was given a nominated title of Our Lady and because Parbold was a Benedictine parish the Diocese thought it would be suitable for the parish to produce a banner dedicated to Our Lady of Buckfast, a Benedictine foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actual blank banner was given to the parish by the archdiocese and under the direction of Sister Agnes Bernadette SND, our parish sister, a group of ladies and young people from the parish began to design and produce the banner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This took many hours spent mainly in the Notre Dame Convent in Parbold – designing, cutting sewing and embroidering both sides of the banner.
One side has the statue of Our Lady of Buckfast displayed and the other side the red rose of Lancashire with the image of Our Lady of Parbold in the rose.

If you are in Church, look carefully at the intricate detail and tiny stiches \u2013 a labour of love.
A few years ago the banner was altered and the title of Our Lady of Buckfast was removed and replaced by Parbold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The archdiocese is organising a trip to FLAME – the largest Catholic youth event in the country where 10,000 young people gather together at Wembley Arena to listen to speakers, pray and praise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
